Using the 5.8MHz band keeps it free of the dreaded microwave oven interference, also as interference from most cordless telephones. The picture is good, though not perfect. But it is more than adequate for all but the biggest TVs (great for a kitchen sized screen). Make sure to experiment with all four channels to find the one that works best.
The only glitch I have found is with the power. Sometimes the A/V link could fail and I could have to restart either the sender or the receiver, based on which one failed. As well, sometimes the channel selection could change unexpectedly on one unit or the other, breaking the link. I solved both of these problems by installing small APC battery backups on both sender and receiver unit. I think electrical storms were at the root of both problems. Since then, I have not had a single recurrence. I have used these units now for over two years.
We do not use the IR link because we have a different one (made by RCA) that works well and serves other devices not connected by the AVS 5811/5813.

I saw all of the rave reviews for this product, so I bought in. Big Mistake.
I planned to hook the transmitter in the basement to send my DirecTV signal upstairs to a small dining room TV. The signal was full of static, or could cut out all together. I spent an hour fiddling with the antennas on both ends, but never got a watchable picture. I ended up moving the transmitter to my upstairs DirecTV receiver, which is only about 50 ft down the hallway. I still had to place the transmitter over many furniture (about six ft high) in order for the signal to reach to receiver. I still have drop out and static problems, but its a watchable picture about 95 of the time. The transmitter and receiver antennas are sensitive to direction, and any slight motion will cause you to totally lose signal. The IR repeater works OK, but I wish the signal was stronger. I do not know where they get this 300 400 ft transmission distance. Maybe if they’re in the same room with no objects in between, but my experience showed that doors and walls really bound your receivable range.

(REAL NAME) () This review is from: 5.8GHz Wireless Audio Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver with Infrared Remote Extender My original review was a five but after a couple of weeks of use I have had to lower it to a 4. The picture is great but the remote extension is not up to par with the picture. Many days it works great and other days it will not work at all. Most of the time it’s in between and the channel will change when you want except instead of going one channel at a time it starts going through a loop till it gets tired and stops on a random channel. I have also figured out that when using the normal tv source I have to shut off the transmitter in order for the remote on that tv to work properly. The major thing though is that the picture transmitted from the living room to the bedroom is great and the remote issues are simply an bother. This is only a temporary set up for some months and does what we needed.
